A fund-raiser to raise money that will oversee construction of a 74 km electric fence around Lake Nakuru National Park has been set for Saturday.
Nakuru National Park senior warden Dickson Ritan told journalists on Wednesday that the fund raiser will collect funds that will be used to fence off the park to curb rising cases of human-wildlife conflict.
The ‘cycle with Rhino’ fund raiser is an annual initiative by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) which aims at rehabilitating the park.
“Plans are almost complete for the Saturday’s cycle with rhino fund raiser,” he said.
Ritan indicated that permanent solutions are being sought to address human-wildlife conflict. He said that electric fence and cameras will be installed around the park to contain wildlife from straying.
The warden at the same time urged residents near the park to co-exist peacefully with the wildlife. He urged them to immediately report cases of wildlife straying.
Ritan’s remarks came as residents of Makaa estate in Nakuru complained of a stray leopard that is causing havoc in the area.
