The Youth Enterprise Development Fund has embarked on an elaborate plan to identify specific opportunities in each county to spur the growth of young people.
The Fund's chairman Ronnie Osumba said the mapping of opportunities is ongoing across the country before they are funded.
Mr Osumba announced that in Nyanza region they have identified fish farming as a pilot project.
He said Sh5 million has been set aside to help young people set up fish cages in Homa Bay County within Lake Victoria region.
“Fish caging has been identified as a good project for young people in the counties within the lake basin. The project will be carried out in Mfangano Island,” he said.
Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday when he attended the Kenya Commercial Bank youth employment project graduates beneficiaries event, Osumba said they intend to identify ten youth groups for the project.
He said the project will be replicated in other counties bordering the lake region once the pilot project turns out to be successful.
Osumba noted that the fund has strengthen its governance that had run into problems in the recent past and assured youth of a transparent process.
“I know the fund had problems in the past but I want to assure young people that everything will be done over board,” he said.
