A family from Nyaguku village in Manga Nyamira County was on Monday forced to postpone the burial of their kin after a person who was serving as the burial committee treasurer fled with Sh30,000 that was contributed towards the burial plans of the deceased.
Onsombi Moriango one of the family members said they were forced to postpone the burial because the family and the local community struggled hard t raise the money.
“We had no option other than to postpone the burial date because the person who was serving as the treasurer chose to disappear with the money. The family is too low financially and we will have to find for other means to clear the hospital and mortuary bills before we take the body from Nyamira County hospital,” he said.
He challenged area government representatives to move with speed and search the suspect to arrest him.
“Local chiefs, Nyumba Kumi officials and police officers should ensure the suspect is arrested even after the funeral will be over because the money that was raised was meant for the burial plans and not for personal use,” he added.
Area MCA Enock Ogori condemned the incident but promised help the family to bury the dead.He urged the family to reschedule the burial date.
