Kiambu residents have castigated Governor Ferdinand Waititu after he made reshuffle in his cabinet.
On Tuesday, Waititu made major changes to his ten- member cabinet barely five months after the county executives took the oath of office.
Of interest, is the reassignment of John Mugwe, the CeC for Roads, Transport, Public Works and Utilities to the Water, Environment, Energy & Natural Resources docket.
The residents took to social media to express their displeasure and fury following the 'demotion' of Mugwe, whom they described as the 'best performing' minister.
"How do you demote your best performing CEC from 1.4B ROADS (Ministry) to 0.3B WATER???" posted Sammy Kagathi."
An engineer from Roads and Public Works to Environment? This County government is a big joke," said Stephen Kabaki.
Mugwe, an engineer by profession, is said to be eyeing the governor's seat in 2022.
It is for this reason, according to residents, that Waititu moved Mugwe to less influential ministry so that he may not outshine him.
"When it comes to power, outshining the master is perhaps the worst mistake of all. It was too early for Mugwe to start showing off his ability and future ambitions, he should have concealed his intentions," observed Wamalwa Allan.
Despite some locals asking him to turn down the offer, Mugwe has maintained that he will take the new assignment and continue serving in Waititu's administration.
"Yours truly John Mugwe has been re- assigned by HE the Governor to the department of Water, Environment, Energy & Natural resources. I take this opportunity to thank the staff ofRoads, Transport, Public Works and Utilities Department who we had built a good rapport over the last 5 months. I look forward to my new assignment," he posted on his Facebook account on Wednesday.
Waititu, Mugwe alongside Deputy Governor James Nyoro, David Ngari (Gakuyo) and Aquiline Njoki, who had all declared interest in the governor's seat, joined hands to oust former Kiambu County boss William Kabogo.
