Residents of Gachagi in Kiambu County are living in fear over possible outbreak of waterborne diseases following what they call sewage flooding their houses.
They blame Thika Water and Sanitation Company (Thiwasco) and Kiambu County Government over the problem.
A spot check in the area showed a sorry state of affairs as biting water shortage is also widely reported.
The water company (Thiwasco) used to supply water but that has stopped leaving the small village in a bad state.
“Our lives are in danger because the toilets cannot even flush and the sewer has blocked. We call on the county government and Thiwasco to step in,” said a resident.
Similar sentiments were echoed by James Kingori who called on Thiwasco and the county government to address their plight.
Thiwasco agent John Kihumba had earlier said residents should be patient as they have moved to address the issue.
“We have a problem in Gachagi and that is why we have commenced a program to ensure the area has piped water under the social connection policy. We call on the residents to cooperate with us in this move,” he said.
