Speaking on Friday at Bonyunyu Primary School when he was giving out vegetable seedlings to the women, area politician Victor Swanya Akama noted that the vegetable business is a money-spinning venture.

Akama further said the farming of vegetables is convenient due to the diminishing land in Gusii region while urging residents to take vegetable farming seriously.

He also advised women to form groups so that they can be supported financially to initiate projects with.

“I ask all women to embrace vegetable farming because land is becoming scarce. This is a lucrative venture that can generate good income to enable you educate your children and provide for other family needs.

I also urge women to form groups so that they can be supported to start off projects for their empowerment,” advised Akama.

The politician challenged other leaders from the constituency to support women so that they can boost their income.

“Women are the fulcrum of the society and therefore if we cannot empower them, we will have failed on our part.

For this matter, I ask leaders to support them so that they can initiate projects in order to transform the society,” challenged Akama.

Women who benefited from Akama’s initiative lauded him for being kind-hearted and giving back to the society.

They asked the county government to enable them market their products which they say is a major challenge.

“We thank our son for remembering women. We now ask the county government through governor John Nyagarama to find for us a market for our vegetables because we are venturing into the activity as soon as possible,” said Agnes Mokeira, a resident in Gachuba.
