Nyeri governor Wahome Gakuru died in a car crash on November 7, 2017.

The governor was heading to Nairobi to attend a talk show. He had served as governor for barely 3 months after his election on 8 August.Gakuru’s final journey will begin at Lee funeral home where his body was preserved after the accident. The cortege will make its way to Kagumo High School where the funeral service will be presided over by clergy from the PCEA church. He is set to be laid at rest at his home in Kirichu, Nyeri.Since this is a state burial, the coffin will be draped by the Kenyan flag. According to funeral planners, his fellow governors will be the pallbearers from the hearse to the tent where the service will be conducted. The service will start at 11 am.After the service, his body will be taken to his Kirichu home where he will be interred after a short service that will be closed to the public. The public will pay homage to Gakuru at Kagumo High school. Kagumo will play host to about 30000 mourners who are expected at the school grounds which is also the governor’s alma mater.Police officers, chief, and assistant chiefs have been assigned to maintain order as only family members, friends, and eminent personalities, specifically his colleagues will be present to witness the casket being lowered into the ground.President Uhuru Kenyatta is among those expected to the late governor’s burial today, along with about 20 other governors.
