Days after declaring his interest in unseating Governor William Kabogo in next year’s polls, real estate tycoon David Kariuki Ngari popularly known as Gakuyo now wants Jubilee Party (JP) to guarantee free, fair and transparent nominations.
The aspirant says that fair nominations will lead to election of right leaders.
Speaking to journalists at a local hotel in Kiambu Town on Wednesday, the aspirant who will be seeking election on a Jubilee ticket asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to guarantee fairness in nominations.
“Jubilee Party top leaders must guarantee us of fair nominations as we prepare for the 2017 elections,” he said.
Mr Gakuyo who is the proprietor of the Gakuyo real estate said that there are claims that some people will be given direct nominations.
“The Party should come clean and assure every aspirant that there will be no direct nominations as being speculated,” he said.
The aspirant who has vowed to unseat Governor William Kabogo exuded confident of being given the Jubilee ticket.
“I am confident that Kiambu people will give me a chance to run for the seat,” he said.
Gakuyo however, said he will move to a party closer to Jubilee in case he misses out on the ticket.
The aspirant together with governor Kabogo, Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu and others are jostling for the Jubilee ticket as the 2017 general election nears.
On Friday last week during Jubilee National Governing Council meeting at the Bomas of Kenya, the party agreed that its nominations will be conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Party top leaders also assured aspirants of fair nominations.
The Jubilee Party was launched in September this year after merging other affiliate parties.
It is the vehicle President Kenyatta will be seeking for a second term in 2017.
Already there are concerns by some aspirants on the ability of the party to conduct free and fair nominations with allegations that the party was fronting to have some candidates nominated directly.
