After years of tussle between natives of Kisauni area and a private investor over GAMAKA parcel of land, the land conflict is now headed to the corridors of the National Assembly.
In a meeting that brought together the three communities of Gandini, Maunguja and Kashani-GAMAKA, the area Member of Parliament Ali Mbogo and his legal team on Thursday, it was agreed that the three communities prepare proper documents so that the issue can be tabled in parliament and debated.
Addressing the Mijikenda communities living in the 4,320 acre parcel of land in question, the locals said that the land labeled number 546 was leased to a European investor, but how it landed to ‘Thathini’ private developer remain a puzzle.
The community from the three areas said that they have resolved to seek assistance from Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Mbogo who is also the Parliamentary lands committee Member.
On his part, Mbogo who was accompanied by a team of legal advisors led by Aziz Musa Ngare said that if all the required documents are in place then it will form a strong case before the National assembly.
He admitted that Kisauni residents were living in poverty because they could not own land while other people from other parts of the country would come and evict them in their native land in the name of being private developers.
“I am fearlessly saying that the time for our people being evicted from their own land is over, we cannot live at the mercies of private developers while we are left in acute poverty, no investment that will render us landless and poor,” he added.
He said that he will follow up the issue to the later and ensure that land conflicts in Kisauni constituency are resolved.
“We have seen our people running battles with police in the recent years, some losing their lives while pregnant mothers being beaten ad left homeless, is that what we call the fruits of the constitution?,” he posed.
He assured the affected families that land issue within Kisauni will top his agenda as the area legislature.
