Former Gambia president Yahya Jammeh has been accused of stealing more than 11 million dollars in cash from state coffers before flying to Guinea's capital, Conakry.
He bowed to pressure and stepped down as president following tense negotiations, after West African military intervention.
Jammeh who took power in a 1994 military coup, was defeated by Adama Barrow, but he declined to leave office.
After leaving for exile, Jammeh is also accused of taking luxurious goods including cars, leaving Gambia almost poorer.
"An adviser to new President Adama Barrow said that 500 million dalasis ($11.45 million) had been withdrawn by Jammeh in the past two weeks alone,'' reports euronews.
Barrow was sworn into office while in Senegal where he had gone for political refuge.
Thousands of Gambians have sought asylum abroad over the years, with their long-time ruler accused by rights groups of jailing, torturing and killing his political opponents while acquiring a vast fortune for himself.
