The new law seeks to ban gambling slot machines in the County, recalling all licenses issued to gambling vendors as well as liaising with the relevant national government agencies such as Betting Control Board to confiscate gambling machines and take appropriate legal action against the vendors.

In a motion sponsored by the majority leader Francis Ngunga, the house observed that the gambling business conducted across the county was not regulated hence lacked legal permit to carry out the business.

“Some illicit traders are now amassing wealth yet the county is earning no revenue from the trade, it is long overdue and this house should obtain necessary orders to end this vice," Ngunga said.

Some members observed that there was low Primary to Secondary School transition in the County.

“The gambling activities have immensely contributed to social decay in our society; petty thieves are evident and diminishing education standards. Many youths have developed a culture of idling, there is no way this house should support evil," said Tariq Mulatya, Masinga central MCA and the house majority whip.

Ngunga is set to table another motion next week seeking to control sale and consumption of alcohol in the County.
