Nakuru Gaming and Lottery Association has urged the Betting Control and Licensing Board to streamline its operations to enable its members conduct their businesses without interference from the county government.
The association has accused the Nakuru county government of imposing high charges to operators in the gaming industry noting that the board should take over the licensing process.
“We are doing business, just like other entrepreneurs. I do not understand why the county government charges us more," said Evans Nderitu, the association Chairman.
"We want owners and operators in the industry to acquire licenses from the regulator and not from the county government," he said adding that, "the county government is double-charging."
Nderitu was speaking when addressing owners and operators of the association in Nakuru Town yesterday where he urged the regulator to intervene and resolve the matter.
The accusations comes at a time when the Council of Governors has ordered operators in the gaming industry to acquire licenses from county governments and not the regulator. However, the Betting Control and Licensing Board maintains that it has the sole authority to issue licenses to operators in the industry.
