A couple has been murdered in their house at Kagumo-ini, Murang'a County.

Joseph Munyiri and his partner Jane Wambui were attacked by a gang armed with crude weapons on Friday night just after the two retired to bed.

Villagers found Munyiri writhing in his last pain after sustaining several cuts while Wambui was discovered dead from the impact of a blunt object on her neck.

The man's eyes had been gouged out and both their bodies had been soaked in acid.

Police later arrested Julia Nyambura, Munyiri's estranged wife, together with her two sons over the murder.

Neighbours revealed that Nyambura was not happy with the coming of another wife and that she had threatened to destroy th new couple's lives.

"She was angry that the new wife was now living in her house, and called Munyiri to complain about it on several occasions. Each time she threatened him and asked them to dig two graves. She threatened to burn them together with the house," says Munyiri's sister-in-law Mary Wangeci.

Apart from his missing mobile phone, there was nothing else reported missing from Munyiri who is believed by the family to be a victim of hitmen.

"We heard screams on Friday around midnight but we had been locked inside our houses to prevent any chance of rescue," Wangeci said.

Kiriaini OCPD Charles Mutua has said they have information which could implicate her in the murder but need more concrete evidence. The suspects were later arraigned in court but did not take plea.
