The thieves also made away with over 100 bags of grade 1 coffee in the Friday night incident.

One of the injured guards Charles Kamanda, said the robbers arrived at the factory in a lorry at around  12am, broke the factory gate and tied them together before raing the store.

He added that his colleague was hacked to death with a panga after he tried to escape.

"They only targeted the store that had grade 1 coffee and I am shocked how they discovered that there was coffee in the store for it was only brought here yesterday (Thursday) awaiting to be transported for processing today," said Kamanda.

Nyamira County Commissioner Joseph Rotich has said police have commenced investigations into the incident, even as he called for cooperation from residents in identifying the culprits.

"Am told it was a big team and I am assuring the public that we will find them if only the community will cooperate with us, they know the suspects naming them would ease our job," added Rotich.
