A suspected gangster was shot dead on Monday evening in a botched robbery in Archers post, Samburu county.
Area police boss Samuel Muthamia said police officers ambushed the 35-year-old Lepelua Lekanaiya at a local joint in the town.
Muthamia said the suspect was armed with a M-16 rifle.
"The suspect was involved in criminal activities. He has been terrorizing residents and stealing property," said the police boss.
He added that the suspect was among a group that recently killed three people in the area.
Muthamia assured residents tight security before and after repeat of presidential elections slated for October 26.
"The officers will be alert to respond to any crime. Those who will take advantage of the ongoing campaigns to disrupt peace should be aware that the law will catch up with them soon," he said.
