Speaking on Thursday, most of Gakoe residents said through the introduction of the vehicles, there is improved sanity in Gakoe town and its outskirts.

"We are glad that the county collects the garbage two days in a week something that has brought sanity in our area," said Magdalene Muthoni, a resident.

Others, however, asked the county to consider spending the millions that it put aside in the current financial year for buying dumping sites, to other projects like impassable roads in Kairi-Mataara.

Speaking while inspecting the collection in Gakoe, area environment and health officer Beatrice Mueni said that the government allocated Sh5 million in the current financial year to buy a dumping site, after the previous one was allegedly grabbed by wealthy business persons.

Mueni urged the residents to clean their environment during Easter by planting trees, clearing of grass and gathering litter together for collection.

"Make it your responsibility this Easter to clean your environment by planting trees, gathering litter as you did before we collected and clearing of grass," she said.

Gakoe town had become a dumping ground and an eyesore to everyone, but the situation is now different, with residents reaping the fruits of the decentralised units.
