Heaps of garbage across estates in Athi River town, Mavoko sub-county is an eyesore to the residents.
Majority of the inhabitants have for months raised complaints of the menace that at a point had led to an outbreak of Cholera in two of its slums, Kwa Mang’ela and Bondeni both within the industrial town.
Despite the fact that majority have in several cases raised complaints on increased litter in the sub county, stray livestock have dominated most of the dumping sites.
Goats, cattle and donkey dominate the litter collection points in the region making them their feeding joints.
Such livestock hang around heaps of litter feeding from them as they interact with the residents instead of seeking for grass to feed on.
Some of the residents have nick named the livestock, “ngombe, mbuzi and punda chokora.”
The donkeys used by their owners to supply water from sources to tenants in the neighborhoods feed from the joints in turns.
It is funny to see a goat feed on waste only to end up in butchery for residents to consume as meat, some aware that several goats and cattle live majorly on garbage while others aren’t aware.
