A new police crime report has indicated that Garissa is among the counties that recorded many cases of violent attacks on the police by criminals.
According to the National Police Service report on crime situation, Lamu County recorded the highest crime index standing at 485 cases per 100,000 persons.
Mombasa closely followed with 340 cases, Taita Taveta at 338, Meru at 311, Kiambu 294 cases, Nakuru 273 and Tana River County at 259 reported cases.
Garissa County recorded a total of 102 cases in the year 2015 alone.
The high number of violent attacks in the county was attributed to increasing acts of terrorists targeted at security personnel using land mines and even improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The report further notes that terrorism continues to pose a big threat to national security in the country, especially along the border counties.
"Terrorism still remains one of the biggest and most significant threat to the national security as extremist groups now target poor and unemployed youths," the police report further indicated.
However, the Kenyan security agencies were reported to have made great progress in curbing extremism and terrorism.
