According to the Situation Report 006 published by the Kenya Red Cross, (KRCS), the outbreak is likely to affect areas with poor sanitation and drainage. Among other areas are Nairobi, Wajir, Isiolo, Nakuru, and Lamu.

In a press release posted by KRCS on Thursday, floods wrecked havoc in Garissa when increased inflows in the seven folks dams resulted in spillage, leading to flooding in the lowlands areas and Tana river, that resulted in the displacement of 670 families in the county and 5,019 families in Tana river county.

The news comes at a time when the Kenya Meteorological Department has pointed out that May marks the peak of the long rains season, with near-normal rainfall to highly enhanced rainfall expected across the country.
