Garissa solar plant project in Raya, Balambala sub-county will be completed by September this year, Rural Electrification Authority CEO Peter Mbugua has said.

Mbugua noted that Sh13.5 billion will be used for the project to be complete.He said the project will add 54 megawatts of power into the national grid as the country moves towards adopting emerging clean energy technology.

The project is being funded by EXIM bank of China.

“Construction of the project is ongoing and we expect it to be completed by September this year,” he said.

He lauded local leaders for supporting the project. 

“The project will stabilize the power supply in Garissa town and its environs,” he added.

Mbugua assured that the project will be expanded to other counties such as Wajir and Mandera.
