Garissa parents and students have called upon the national government to postpone the national exams until the issue of drought is addressed.
The parents argue that administering examinations will not be fair to the students of Garissa County, adding that most students are not even in school and have joined their parents in search for food.
They raised their worries that some may not appear for the national exams, something the national government should seek to address urgently.
“We don’t expect these students to sit for national exams with the current situation here. This will not be fair to the students and we will be guaranteeing them failure,” said Amina Mohammed.
“The government should consider pushing the national examinations to a later date when the issue of drought is addressed. How will students sit for national exams on empty stomachs?” Idi Musa.
“I am not ready to sit for the national exams especially now that I have not been in school for some time,” says Ibrahim Yusuf.
Garissa has been hit by drought that the county had not experienced in the past 200 years, and it has paralyzed education in the region.
KCPE is set to start on November 1 and run to November 3, while KCSE will kick off on November 7 and run up to November 30.
