The Ministry of Health is targeting to vaccinate over three million children under five years against polio in 15 counties.
According to kbctv.co.ke, the exercise will start on Wednesday, January 18 and will run for five days.
The move follows a polio risk analysis conducted by the ministry that seeks to eradicate polio in the country.
The risk analysis conducted in October last year showed that 66 per cent of children under five in Kenya were at moderate or high risk of getting polio in case an imported case found its way into the country.
Nairobi, Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Turkana, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma and Busia are high-risk counties.
Director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko said the vaccination had been prompted by an outbreak in Nigeria in August 2016, which he said potentially exposes Kenya to a possible polio outbreak.
