Community members from the three largest clans in Garissa County have agreed to bury the hatchet and work together in the coming New Year.
There have been existing cold war between Abduwak, Auliyahan and Abdala clans after every general election resulting in clan clashes with those defeated feeling short-changed and often resulting in clan clashes.
The event which was organized by the County Government was meant to heal wounds that were inflicted on many by highly charged political campaigns and general elections.
Already former Governor Nathif Jama has withdrawn his petition against the incumbent Ali Bunow Korane and advised his supporters to work closely with the current County administration in order to realize meaningful developmental gains.
According to the Agriculture and Livestock CEC Issa Yarrow, similar forums will be organized for youths aimed at empowering them financially through capacity building and exposures in other counties.
He said the County government will create a conducive environment for business that will encourage the young people to venture into it instead of joining extremist groups like Al Shabaab and ISIS.
Although neither Governor Korane nor his former Nathif attended the fete where six camels and 14 goats were slaughtered, the elders present said they were in support of the reconciliation process they themselves initiated.
Health CEC Ahmed Abdinadir said the reconciliation of communities will ease tensions and hasten development as the New Year begins.
They later shared meals where a plate consisted of every member of the three clan and prayers conducted by local Imams.
