Christian clerics in Garissa County have called for a political truce between president Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga for the sake of peace, unity and harmony in the country.
The clerics said high political temperatures has divided Kenyans on political and ethnic lines.
Rev. David Matolo of the Redeemed Church said president Kenyatta and Raila must embrace dialogue for the sake of Kenyans.
“A part from being a president, Uhuru is also the father of the nation. He should put down his foot and provide leadership by allowing dialogue to take place because it is not too late as Kenyans will uphold nationhood. As Kenyans we have no where to go if the country burns," he said.
Pastor Eliud Mue of AIC said it is high time for the leaders to shun divisive politics and save the country.
“Top leadership must soften their stances and give dialogue for the sake of peace, unity and harmony," Mue said.
Pastor Obadiah Mwinzi of the Kenya Assemblies of God urged president Kenyatta and Odinga to put the interest of the country ahead and not their personal and party interests.
Mwinzi said the country will not go into war as witnessed in the 2007/2008 due to political and tribal divisions among Kenyans.
