It was a tense and sombre mood as worshippers thronged in to offer their prayers in remembrance of the attack that killed over 20 people with others sustaining lifetime injuries during the 2012 attack that was allegedly staged by Al-Shabaab.

Speaking during the function, Garissa County commissioner, James Kianda said security had greatly improved in the area owing to timely intelligence sharing amongst members of public and security agents.

Hundreds of believers, families, relatives and friends from different denominations flocked in at the church to remember those who ultimately perished in the hands of the brutal terrorists.

Pastor Eliud Mule, however, urged the state to do more for the survivors who are still nursing the injuries sustained.

"We have Christian faithful who suffered broken bones. Among them are those who have grenade shrapnel stuck on their bodies. They still require urgent medical assistance from the state and other well-wishers," he said.
