Residents living along the River Tana have abandoned their residential homes and are camping at various sections of town after the river burst its banks and left residents marooned.
Several women carrying crying toddlers have sought asylum at various schools camp in the town, amid hunger and starvation.
Hamud Abdullahi, a resident, lamented that since their houses were washed away, they have been forced to spend their nights out in the cold.
" We dont have places to sleep. Most of our children are starving. We sleep in a congested classroom," said the resident.
The affected residents are appealing to the county government to intervene the dire situation and help them with foodstuff and temporary houses to live.
So far approximately 500 families have been displaced since the River burst its banks.
