Garissa secondary schools have been disqualified from participating in the Northern region Secondary schools' sports competitions set for Friday this week at Garissa Technical Institute.
The reports emerged after a dispute ensued over the qualification criteria at the county level, where three sub-counties had fielded one team each as demanded by the region’s sports organizers. However, Garissa Town sub-county pushed to enroll two, contrary to the provisions.
The region’s sports executive rejected the sub county's idea and could not agree on the way forward.
A second meeting that was held on Monday evening to rule on the fate of the games was equally futile as the committee failed to reach a consensus.
As a result of the continued disagreements, Garissa County director of education, Sheik Adan called off the county games.
The regional games will now feature eight teams from Wajir and Mandera counties who will hold a field battle in the absence of Garissa county outfits.
