[Elders and civil society group welcome latest move by Garissa Governor Ali Korane.] (the-star.co.ke)Elders and civil society groups in Garissa County have welcomed radical changes made in the county government after Garissa Governor Ali Korane took office.
Led by elder Dubat Hamey, the elders and the civil society urge the governor to focus on improving service delivery by working hard and delivering pledges made to the electorate.
Mr Hamey further urged Garissa residents to support the governor as he makes changes in the garissa county government.
The elders added that governor Korane should initiate more development projects to benefit Garissa residents.
“We support the governor as he makes radical changes in the county government. Any positive change being taken by the governor should be supported by the residents,” said elder Hamey.
Garissa Civil Society Groups chairman Khalif Abdi urged the governor to continue with his work to improve efficiency and enhance accountability and integrity in all levels of the government.
“The outgoing administration was rotten with corruption and that is why the new governor has taken action.”
“Change is as good as rest. This is the change the people of Garissa were yearning for. Let us support this government and ensure it delivers,” Mr Abdi said.
Governor Korane has sent chief officers and county executive committee members on compulsory leave a move that he said is part of county government’s restructuring process.
The governor also made impromptu visit at the Garissa Provisional Referral Hospital and at the Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (GAWASCO) water plant to assess the effectiveness of service delivery.
