Garissa County has emerged the best county in health services delivery in the entire nation.
According to an annual assessment undertaken by the health ministry, the county beat the rest of 46 counties to come at the top.
This news comes a few days after the Garissa Governor launched an automated health system to boost the delivery of health services in the region.
The county was ranked the best because of the latest innovations that have led to improved drug supply as well as reduction in maternal deaths in various parts of the county.
Garissa County government has been encouraging women in the region to deliver in maternal centres and hospitals.
“The Ministry of Health has developed criteria for selection of best practices governed by various attributes of the best practice such as its efficiency, cost- effectiveness, community involvement and sustainability,” said Health CS Cleopa Mailu while addressing the media on Wednesday.
Embu County took the second position. Mailu noted that poor women in this county have encouraged to deliver in maternal shelter where they live for some time after delivery.
He also added that these women have been provided with the Mama kitty, which has goodies valued at Sh 300.
The county government also rewards traditional birth attendants and community health extension workers for every woman taken to the maternal shelter in order to deliver.
The other top counties included Kericho, West Pokot and Kiambu.
