In his first business as governor-elect, Jubilee’s Ali Korane’s comments that the fire was politically motivated caused more uproar, with police finding answers to what led to the fire.

According to Korane, the fact that the fire broke out immediately the results were announced is questionable.

“An hour after the election was announced, the market was set on fire. The police should ensure that all those who incited the public are brought to book,” Korane said when he spoke to the media.

He further denied claims that the fire might have been caused by a clan, saying clans cannot commit such crimes.

“A clan doesn’t plan crimes. A crime is committed by an individual, his masters and their accomplices,” Korane said as quoted by the star

He added: “I want to reassure everybody that we are going to set an administration that will cater for the needs of the people of this great county.”

Senator-elect Yussu Haji, who sent a statement to the press, also asked the residents to maintain peace and calm.

“Garissa is bigger any individual or community. It belongs to all of us. As elected leaders we want to ensure all that no want will be left out in the all-inclusive administration,” Haji said.
