Garissa First Lady Amina Abdullahi has launched the Mashinani Ambulance Program geared towards improving general healthcare delivery in the county.
During the launching exercise, Amina said that maternal healthcare emergencies and even referrals in rural areas of the county would largely be boosted by her initiative.Besides the ambulance services, the first lady also donated four lorries of foodstuffs to be distributed to the hunger-stricken residents who were reeling from the effects of drought that has now lasted for months.
Additionally, she also donated approximately 700 textbooks to be equally distributed to the various Garissa schools and further 500 boxes of sanitary towels for the school girls in primary and secondary schools.Addressing residents who had gathered during the rolling out exercise,the first lady said she hopes the new ambulances would largely complement and support the existing referral services in its quest towards saving lives of expectant mothers and sickly children.
She also lauded health care workers in the county for their hard work which has catapulted the county to the top of the log of counties with the best healthcare systems.She, however, called on all stakeholders to work together in promoting quality healthcare while at the same time lauding the efforts of the county health team for the job they were doing.
