Garissa County governor Nathif Jama has cancelled all contracts that have been issued by his government in the past three months.
While announcing the move at his office in Garissa on Wednesday, Jama said that most of the contracts that were issued by various county departments were either illegal or they were issued irregularly.
“We want all those who have been issued contracts to carry out various projects to countercheck with us because the county government will not pay any wrongly issued contract," said Jama.
The governor said that the cancelled contracts were issued by county executives and heads of departments without following the laid down procedures.
He has now asked the contractors to follow the matter through the office of the deputy governor.
"No contractor should go ahead and begin their work before getting directions from the deputy governor. All contracts shall be reviewed in his office," he added.
Some contractors recently blamed the county government for delaying payments for the projects they have already completed.
