Garissa governor Ali Korane has created new county government positions namely: chief officer for urban development, ICT, E-government, and County administration.
According to the governor, the move is deemed to improve service delivery to the people of Garissa County.
In the wake of reactions witnessed across the country following president Uhuru Kenyatta’s appointment of his new cabinet secretaries,
Garissa County Governor Ali Korane has also been the first governor to make changes in his county shortly after president Kenyatta.
Talking to the members of the fourth estate from the county’s headquarters, the governor said that he is expecting an equal share of reactions as he is well informed that not everyone will welcome the move with open arms.
“I know there will be a lot of debate regarding these positions. Some may think they were unnecessary while others may think otherwise but our decisions are made purely on the need for service delivery,” Korane said.
According to the Garissa County boss, he made the informed decision since there are gaps and mismanagement of power in Garissa.
“We make our decisions, not on speculation or public opinions or perceptions. I think all that debate was done during the elections and people thought that we can take good care of their interests and make good decisions for them and that is what we are doing,” he said.
The new appointees, whose names are yet to be vetted by Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and their respective positions, include, Abdullahi Osman Ibrahim as the chief officer for urban development, Rashid Mohamed (ICT, E-government), Abdi Abdullahi, (County administration)
