Anniversary to commemorate all those who perished in the massacre that took place in April 9, 1980 dubbed 'Garissa Gubay' meaning Garissa torched, will be held today (Sunday) at the Garissa public library.
The main agenda to be discussed during the anniversary includes having annual prayers for the affected families and relatives, seeking for justice for the victims.
The meeting will also look to set tiles in respect to those who died during the massacre.
Several top leaders from Garissa County are set to attend the function as a way of showing solidarity to the affected people.
Sources reveal that among the leaders expected to grace the function include Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale, Governor Nathif Jama, Senator Yussuf Haji, Religious leaders and other dignetories from the county.
During the massacre, over 300 people were killed, having detained for more than 48 hours with no food and water, a situation that led to the death of the elderly.
Both men and women were shot, with most women reported raped and houses torched.
'Garissa Gubay' massacre was one of the deadliest massacres in the country, and many still have the scars from the deadly incident.
