The Garissa new health CEC Ahmednadhir Omar has assured the residents of better service delivery following his nomination. Speaking at Dadaab Sub-county hospital, Omar promised to deliver his duties without fear or favor after his nomination was approved by the county assembly. He assured the residents that the county government is committed to lowering the maternal deaths recorded in the region in the next five years of his leadership. Omar, however, said that this can only be achieved if the residents and other leaders accord him the support he deserves to make Garissa a better place for the locals as well as visitors. “We are determined to bring down these figures by first establishing comprehensive maternity services in our rural health centers. This is where most of these deaths occur,” Omar said. He also lauded the health workers at the different facilities in the county including the Garissa Level Five Hospital for their good work. He also assured the residents that they can change the condition of health facilities through unity.“We can have the best-equipped facilities, but without a motivated workforce all our efforts to improve healthcare services will be in vain,” Omar said. The remarks of the CEC come after Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2014, ranked Garissa among the 15 worst performing counties at 646 deaths for every 100,000 live births. The mothers in the county have been asked to seek professional health care during birth to reduce the deaths.
