Garissa herders have raised concern over the drought that has hit the area, and fear losing all their animals if it persists.
They locals now want the county and national governments to buy their animals in order to reduce losses.
“We would appreciate if the national government would buy our animals at good prices so that we don’t suffer much losses. This will help us preserve our wealth in monetary form,” says Ali Musa.
They claim they have suffered losses in the recent past and the national government has failed to come to their rescue, further requesting the government to roll out feeding programmes for the people.
“We have a government that we voted for. If they cannot protect their people during such crisis, then what is their role and need for recognition?” says Idi Maalim.
Experts warn that the drought may persist and locals fear the worst may happen.
