Jama further urged the Borana community to also declare to uphold peace just as their Somali counterparts did in Benane town.

He at the same time directed a word of caution to all political  aspirants seeking various elective seats within the two counties to conduct their campaigns with utmost decorum to avoid causing unnecessary disharmony among livestock communities.

He further  urged state security apparatus to closely monitor politicians, making inflammatory statements during their campaigns and take stern action against them.

It is only few weeks ago that several livestock herders were killed in the volatile Isiolo -Garissa border over disputed watering points. The area has since remained desserted as families flee to safer grounds in fear of more retaliatory attacks.

However, Lagdera Sub-County Commissioner Jackson Olechuta has assured fleeing herders that their livestock that were left behind in Isiolo County during the clashes would be reverted back to their real owners.

Olechuta was speaking during a peace declaration meeting held in Benane Trading Centre.
