Garissa County chiefs have been warned against laziness and sleeping on the job.
Mohamud Saleh, the North Eastern Regional coordinator claimed that the local government officers have been boycotting duties crippling adminstrative services in the region.
"Chiefs have relocated from their villages to rent houses in urban centers instead of being closer to the people. Any chief who will be found to have abandoned his or her home village will be sacked so that those who are ready to live in the village with locals are given the opportunities to represent the government at the grass root level," he said.
Saleh said the chiefs remains the watchdog for the government at the village level and therefore, they should be there daily to serve the people.
“Chiefs should not be absent from their duty station. The government is committed to ensure people are safe and any administrator will fail to deliver risks sacking," he noted.
He urged the chiefs to be vigilant and report any suspected local colluding with Al Shaabab militants who have been terrorizing locals in the region.
"Chiefs should keep the eyes open to know any youth joining the terror group and report to police for legal action to be taken," he added.
