Garissa leaders have been accused of failing to protect the refugees who are set to be repatriated.
Speaking to a group of writers on Tuesday, the refugees claim that NGO’s and Garissa politicians have failed in protecting them by failing to intervene on the move to close the Dadaab Camp. The government is set to close the camp which is the largest in the world with over 500000 refugees.
“We had faith in the leaders and NGO’s that they would intervene but unfortunately, we have been forced out. This is a failure on part of the leaders from the region whom we expected would protect us,” said Mohamed Idi.
They are worried that they do not know where they will go from here.
“I have 5 kids and I do not know where I will take them. The situation is bad. Some of our homes were torched and finding food and a home is another nightmare. The government should have reconsidered the idea to close the camp for most of us will suffer. We call upon our leaders to intervene in the matter,” said Abdi Bashir.
