Two leaders from Garissa County have called upon the Kenyan Red Cross and other aid agencies to help residents of this part of the nation tackle the ongoing drought.
According to the leaders, the national government’s effort to distribute relief food to the region is not enough to fight drought.
They asked the organizations to support the government to ensure that drought does not shutter hopes of a better life for residents of the county.
“It’s high time other aid agencies joined hands with the government and upscale the distribution of relief food especially in rural setups where the population has been badly affected,” he said.
The leaders noted that sections of Dadaab and Lagdera sub counties are among the most affected areas, adding that the situation is likely to worsen as school near the closing dates.
They further said that most parents have been relying on relief food programmes in schools.
On his part, Amey called upon the national government to work together with the local chiefs to ensure that food reaches the affected persons.
