Garissa security officials have assured the local residents that they have put in places to ensure peaceful polls.

Addressing journalists at a local hotel after meeting different leaders eyeing various elective posts in the county, Garissa sub-county Deputy Commissioner Hiddi Galgalo reminded that residents is maintaining peace before, during and after the August general elections, adding that the leaders have pledged to conduct peaceful campaigns.

He said that elections will only take place on a single day, adding that life must continue after the polls. He also asked the residents and Kenyans at large to remain united as we head to the elections next month.

“Elections come and go every five years. There will be winners and losers. It is not a matter of life and death. We should come together as Kenyans and work for the good of our nation,” said Galgalo.

He also revealed that they have information about a section of youths being used to plan chaos when that time comes, adding that they should shun such acts or else they will face the music.

“We have seen youths being misused by self-seeking politicians to cause chaos. I implore them to desist from such acts,” he added.

He further said that all leaders are committed to peace.
