Garissa locals have raised worries of a possible outbreak of waterborne diseases following the persisting drought.
The locals say they have been forced to use every available water whether dirty or clean, and have ran out of options.
“What do we do and we can’t live without water. The far we travel does not guarantee us clean water and we hope that we do not fall sick as a result of the dirty water,” says Mohamed Ali, a resident.
The locals have been forced to travel far and wide to find the precious commodity.
“I am afraid of an outbreak of waterborne diseases which will make our situation more worse. We want the government to come to our id,” adds Mary Amina.
Experts have warned of a possible outbreak of diseases such as cholera and typhoid, as the area continues to face a persistent drought.
