Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town after attending a meeting with SUPKEM officials on Wednesday. Saleh said that the government has put in place proper measures to ensure security ahead of next month’s general election.

Saleh told journalists that adequate police officers have been deployed in Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir and Isiolo counties.

He said that police patrols and surveillance has also been increased on the borders with the neighboring Somalia.

“We are working round the clock to ensure security is guaranteed as Kenyans prepare to vote on August 8,” he said as quoted by the Star.

Saleh asked residents in Northern Kenyan not to fear urging them to come out in large numbers and vote on election day.

He however urged residents to be vigilant and work with the police as they keep law and order.

Saleh at the same time urged Garissa residents to strictly observe the dusk to dawn curfew imposed by the government.

He said that the curfew is meant to boost security and not an act of victimization as being peddled by some politicians.

Meanwhile, Saleh has denied claims that some police officers are siding with certain politicians in the region.

He said that police will remain neutral and will not be dragged to politics.
