Garissa pastoralists have now called upon Garissa Governor Nathif Jama to intervene on the issue of grazing fields.
The county government of Isiolo drafted a bill that will see Garissa pastoralists start paying for grazing fields, something that has stirred bitterness among the herding community.
They claim the bill is unfair and likely to stir violence among the two friendly counties, and called on Jama to intervene and look into the mystery.
“We call upon our governor to intervene into the issue. There is no way we are going to pay for grazing fields. We have always freely moved our animals and why does the county government of Isiolo want to bring problems,” says Mohamed Musa.
They say the bill is likely to stir tension, and leaders have been urged to move in and offer a lasting solution.
“We feel sidelined by Isiolo County government. They should remember that we are all Kenyans and have the right to move from one side to another. This will only lead to enmity something that we have fought to end over the years,” said Nassir Ali.
“We would like to call upon our Governor Jama to look into the matter and ensure it is addressed,” he added.
