Garissa locals have expressed their dissatisfaction over the ongoing National Youth Service programmes (NYS) for the youth, claiming the exercise is an early rigging of elections by the government prior to the already hotting up election campaigns.
Residents who spoke to this this writer revealed that the current NYS registration exercise in the Garissa Township constituency is suspicious since the registration clerks are using BVR kits borrowed from Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
They disclosed that the machines could have been programmed to capture youth's bio data including their finger prints to be reflected in the final voters register in readiness for the 2017 elections.
"This exercise is meant to rig the elections well in advance. What is the essence of one taking the finger prints of an individual for an NYS job? What is the motive behind the NYS registers using the IEBC biometric kits?" posed a resident.
However, efforts to seek clarifications from the registration officials in the programme failed to bear fruits as they said they were not allowed to address the media.
