Speaking during the launching of a peace building pilot project in Mandera town, Siad Abdi said an accord between the warring Garre and the Degodia clans is yet to be effected.

"We need the NCIC commission to ensure what was discussed and agreed upon be implemented. We are getting nearer to the election period which triggered the past inter-clan clashes," Abdi said.

At the peak of clashes pitting the two warring clans after 2013 general elections, President Kenyatta appointed Francis Ole Kaparo and Garissa Senator Yussuf Hajji to oversee the reconciliation talks between the two warring parties.

The local elders now issue that unresolved boundary disputes and inequality in the distribution of elective positions were likely to trigger new conflicts.
