The Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have called upon Garissa Governor Ali Korane to prioritize drought and the health crisis facing the county after he took over office following the last general elections.

According to the lawmakers, these two areas have affected the residents massively and they need to be addressed as soon as possible.

The assembly is expected to be opened today (Thursday) where the county boss will give his maiden speech.

The Jubilee governor is also expected to outlined the agenda as well as vision he has for the people of this part of the nation after taking over power from Wiper Nathif Jama, who has since gone to court to challenge his win.

Led by Minority leader Mohamed Ali (Abakaile), Suleiman Mohamed of Jarajara and Mohamed Abdi (Dadaab) urged the governor to consider their plight.

“Atop his agenda should be how he will move with speed to address the biting drought that is being felt across the county and the nurses strike that has paralysed health services,” Mohamed Ali said, as quoted by The Star.

He also said that ongoing drought has made life unbearable for the residents of this part of the nation.

“Our people in the rural areas are suffering because of the drought. That requires urgent intervention. Animals are dying and livelihoods are also being threatened’ he added.
