Garissa MCAs have called on the National government and NGOs to intervene and help mitigate drought.

The MCAs led by Minority leader Mohamed Ali of Abakaile ward, Mohamed Abdi of Dadaab ward and Suleiman Mohamed of Jarajara said the county alone cannot manage drought.

They said residents and livestock are suffering due to prolonged drought in the region.

"People in the rural areas are suffering due to drought. An urgent intervention is required. Livestock are dying and human life is at risk", said Ali.

Abdi said members are ready to pass the supplementary budget for the county to distribute water and animal feed quickly.

He said stakeholders should join hands to help contain the situation.

"I call upon the national government and NGOs operating in the area to join hands in mitigating against the drought because the county can't manage alone", he noted.
