Garissa Members of county Assembly are now calling on the police to speed their investigation on those who threatened non Muslims to leave the county. Led by county assembly leader of majority Mr Nassir Mohamed who spoke via phone, he said there is need for the police to speed up their operation of getting those who threatened non locals to leave the county. Last week, Garissa Members of County Assembly (MCAs) led by Jarajilla Ward Representative, Mahat Osman asked the police to trace the originators of the message calling on the non-locals to leave and prosecute them. The County Commissioner, Rashid Khator has moved to assure non-local residents living in the area of their security. Speaking at a local radio station , Khator said that security agencies have put measures in place to ensure the safety of all the area residents and their property. For the past three weeks, panic has gripped Garissa town and its environs with ‘messages’ calling on non Muslims to leave. Terming the hate messages as propaganda, Khator said that the government was aware of the threats and urged the residents not to remain calm. He urged wananchi to cooperate with security agencies by volunteering information that would help in curbing crime in the area. “We are urging Garissa town residents to not to panic at all. The government is on top of things and we are assuring them of their safety. Don’t pay attention to cheap propaganda being peddled around,” said Khator. The MCAs said it was perpetually wrong for a section of the residents to live in constant fear of attacks.
