The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has announced in a paid up advert on a local daily that the government in preparing documentation to upgrade the Mombasa Garissa highway from Malindi.KeNHA Director General Peter Mundinia said that the authority will conduct public participation in February to allow the public air their views for probable adoption of sustainable measures while conducting the project.The meetings will be held from February 5 to February 10 in Madogo, Bura, Garsen, Ganda and Malindi for the five consecutive days.“The general public within the project area and surrounding areas are hereby notified and invited to attend the public consultation meetings to be held as per the above schedule,” he said.Mr Mundinia said the project is a collaboration between the National Government and the world bank and the road is to be upgraded to a B8 road.“The Government of Kenya (with support from the World Bank) through its implementing agency, KeNHA, is preparing documentation for the upgrading of the Malindi-Garsen-Hola-Madogo section of the Mombasa-Garissa Road,” Mundinia added.He added that KeNHA has engaged the services of Roughton International and East African Engineering Consultants to do a feasibility study, Environmental Impact and Social Impact Assessment reports. He said that the firms will prepare a resettlement action plan and preliminary and detailed designs, as well as the tender documents for the rehabilitation of the road.
